The stone carvers of ancient India enjoyed portraying human anatomy in a realistic manner. Good sculptural representations of the female form were greatly appreciated by their patrons. This piece would have been a large imposing sculpture when in full. The head and bust alone measure 44 cms in height. The medium is buff sandstone. A broad ornate necklace adorns her neck. The expression is pleasant and the palms are held together in salutation. The quality of work, scale, colour of the stone and form make this sculpture an extremely beautiful antiquity.
